While this may not be a recent photo (some 25 years old in truth) it is from about the time that we had our first dog, a Yorkshire terrier named Sadie. Sadie lived to be over 14 years old, seeing me through school and university, and acting as a warm mop of fur to come home to.
Since Sadie passed away I have also owned another, larger, dog named Ravage. Ravage was a Staffordshire bull terrier and Labrador cross, and was one of the most friendly (if ill disciplined) dogs you could ever hope to meet.
Boxer dog rescued by fire-fighters after slipping through ice
A two-year-old boxer dog suffered a mishap on Sunday February 7th 2012, as he slipped through the ice on a frozen reservoir in Clatto County Park. The cold conditions that has seen the United Kingdom dusted with snow over the weekend seems to have caused a problem for the dog, who required the assistance of fire-fighters to rescue him from the cold depths of the broken ice. This is just one of a number of similar cases that have happened as a result of frozen lochs and reservoirs. The owner of the boxer dog made an attempt to reach and retrieve the dog on her own. Despite her efforts, a call was made to Tayside Fire Service who made an appearance at the scene and made use of (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Intelligent Yorkshire Terrier alerts owner about house fire
Dogs have always been great, friendly companions, hence the Man’s Best Friend title, but nothing comes close to the valuable help provided by a Yorkshire Terrier named Maisie, who recently alerted an owner that his house was up in flames. The local canine managed to use initiative to run to the location of the owner and encourage him to come home and find help for the situation. On Saturday 21st January 2012 at approximately 6pm, Maisie noticed (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Piece of chicken saves trapped Jack Russell
On Saturday last weekend, Tig, a female Jack Russell, was faced with a terrible ordeal when she found herself stuck in an underground tunnel in the Dundee area. Thankfully, Tig has been returned to her owner after 26 gruelling hours alone, with the help of a dog rescue team in Macalpine Road – and a bit of chicken. This unexpected experience may have worried her owner and those trying to help her, but Tig remained unharmed and was eager to fill her belly when she was released from the tunnel. The ordeal began when Tig was doing her regular habit of chasing rabbits in the (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
A bit about unusual dog breeds
Being creatures of habit, we humans tend to stick with what we know. Go to any park on a sunny day and will see Jack Russells, Labradors, Alsatians, Yorkshire Terriers and so on. These are all common breeds that have justifiably won a firm place in any dog lover’s heart. Unfortunately some of the more unusual breeds seem almost forgotten. Hungarian Pulis, Briards, Wheaten Terriers, Teckels or even the Saluki and the original 1970’s hippy dog, the Afghan Hound; they are all charming breeds that are hardly seen any more. If you are thinking about getting a new dog, why not do a bit of research and what is available. Most breeders (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
What to look for in a dog breeder
It is always important to choose a reputable dog breeder if you are going to buy a puppy. Supporting irresponsible dog breeding will only serve to perpetuate bad practices which can ultimately be harmful to the dogs. Dogs used to breed too many litters, puppies that are taken from their mothers too early or dogs kept in terrible overcrowded conditions can be all too common if dog breeding is seen as purely a money making scheme and (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Kate Middleton given pet Labrador puppy for birthday
It was the Duchess of Cambridge’s 30th birthday on the 9th January and, while the whole nation revelled at the knowledge of Kate spending her first birthday as a royal, she was spending her time enjoying an adorable present. It has recently been revealed that, aside from the luxurious clothing and jewels that Kate received on the celebration of her birthday, she also received the gift of a pet Labrador puppy. The Labrador puppy had a shiny black coat and was given to the Duchess by her new husband, Prince William. Kate is an animal lover and it appears she was thrilled with the new addition to her royal family. While the couple (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 8.0/10 (4 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: +1 (from 1 vote)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Bichon Frise & Shih Tzu returned to happy owners
An unfortunate incident regarding the dognapping of a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu in Brighton has come to a happy ending, as the dogs were returned to their owners. Emma, a mother of four, has said now how she will be extra careful to not let the dogs out of her sight. The Shih Tzu, named Rollo, and Lula the Bichon Frise, were both taken from their own home on Monday, January 9th. With the dogs normally roaming (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 10.0/10 (1 vote cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Make your grooming memorable for all the right reasons
You don’t want your dog’s grooming session to be memorable for all the wrong reasons. Be prepared, your local pet store will be able to provide everything you need. Maintenance sessions lasting just a few minutes will keep your dog looking great and feeling good. Get the right kind of brush and combs for your dog’s coat, different brushes have different uses, if you have a very long haired dog you may need specific brushes. For simple routine grooming a series of wide and narrow toothed combs are handy. Excessive tugging with the wrong brush will make your dog sore and he or she will be reluctant (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
The use of a dog cage or dog crate
Putting a dog inside a crate or cage can seem cruel to some, but when used in the right way, a crate can be a really useful tool to keep your dog safe, help train him and also be used as a safe means of transportation. The cage or crate should never be positioned as a punishment to the dog or else he will not accept the crate. Getting a dog to accept the crate whilst he is a puppy will also be easier, although not impossible, than teaching an adult dog who has never seen one. Entice the dog into the crate using a treat and encouraging words – repeating a phrase that you will later (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 10.0/10 (1 vote cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Is your child ready for the responsibilty of a dog?
Most children at some point ask their parents for a pet and looking after an animal can be a great learning experience for children, teaching them a sense of responsibility and care. However, dogs are a huge responsibility and lots of thought must go into deciding if the whole family can take it on as it is a commitment for everyone in the household. A pet like a dog requires as much attention as any other member of the family. A dog will need attention, grooming, exercising and of (more) ShareVN:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.13_1145]Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
