While this may not be a recent photo (some 25 years old in truth) it is from about the time that we had our first dog, a Yorkshire terrier named Sadie. Sadie lived to be over 14 years old, seeing me through school and university, and acting as a warm mop of fur to come home to.
Since Sadie passed away I have also owned another, larger, dog named Ravage. Ravage was a Staffordshire bull terrier and Labrador cross, and was one of the most friendly (if ill disciplined) dogs you could ever hope to meet.
Fire fighters rescue dog from ice covered pond
Derrick and Patricia Thorman are a husband and wife from Washington in England. A recent trip to take their daughter’s pet dog, Macy, for a walk turned into a frightening ordeal. With conditions around the United Kingdom recently plummeting as low as -10 degrees, many ponds and lakes have frozen over. Although this has proven to be an exciting time for ice skaters, it is proving to be a major threat to pet owners. As Macy ran ahead of the Thorman’s to chase a swan, the ice gave way beneath her. Despite Derrick and Patricia wanting to save the Whippet dog, they were helpless due to the unbearable temperatures and danger that lurked beneath. This worry prompted (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
High frequency dog food commercial airs in the UK
Pets in the UK are to experience an innovative way of watching television, as Bakers released a high frequency advert on 13th February 2012. The high pitch sounds are set to attract dogs, but will be imperceptible to humans. This technique is aimed at grasping the attention of dogs with high frequency notes that will result in them barking. Bakers are hoping that the reaction of all breeds of dog will intrigue owners to purchase the product, resulting in a boost in sales for the company. Bakers have been a victorious brand in dog food for many years, being named as (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Indoor games for your pet
Whatever the weather, your dog needs exercise. So, come rain or shine, you need to make sure that your dog gets some mental and physical stimulation. However, there will be some weather, days or circumstances when you just cannot give your dog a good long walk. On days like these, it can be useful to have some ideas up your sleeve to help keep your dog amused and entertained when indoors. You may even enjoy them too! Classic games such as fetch or tug with your dog’s favourite chewy toy are well worn games but still entertaining for your pet – and they do not require much room in the house to play. Get into your hallway if you have (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Boxer dog rescued by fire-fighters after slipping through ice
A two-year-old boxer dog suffered a mishap on Sunday February 7th 2012, as he slipped through the ice on a frozen reservoir in Clatto County Park. The cold conditions that has seen the United Kingdom dusted with snow over the weekend seems to have caused a problem for the dog, who required the assistance of fire-fighters to rescue him from the cold depths of the broken ice. This is just one of a number of similar cases that have happened as a result of frozen lochs and reservoirs. The owner of the boxer dog made an attempt to reach and retrieve the dog on her own. Despite her efforts, a call was made to Tayside Fire Service who made an appearance at the scene and made use of (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Intelligent Yorkshire Terrier alerts owner about house fire
Dogs have always been great, friendly companions, hence the Man’s Best Friend title, but nothing comes close to the valuable help provided by a Yorkshire Terrier named Maisie, who recently alerted an owner that his house was up in flames. The local canine managed to use initiative to run to the location of the owner and encourage him to come home and find help for the situation. On Saturday 21st January 2012 at approximately 6pm, Maisie noticed (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
Piece of chicken saves trapped Jack Russell
On Saturday last weekend, Tig, a female Jack Russell, was faced with a terrible ordeal when she found herself stuck in an underground tunnel in the Dundee area. Thankfully, Tig has been returned to her owner after 26 gruelling hours alone, with the help of a dog rescue team in Macalpine Road – and a bit of chicken. This unexpected experience may have worried her owner and those trying to help her, but Tig remained unharmed and was eager to fill her belly when she was released from the tunnel. The ordeal began when Tig was doing her regular habit of chasing rabbits in the (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
A bit about unusual dog breeds
Being creatures of habit, we humans tend to stick with what we know. Go to any park on a sunny day and will see Jack Russells, Labradors, Alsatians, Yorkshire Terriers and so on. These are all common breeds that have justifiably won a firm place in any dog lover’s heart. Unfortunately some of the more unusual breeds seem almost forgotten. Hungarian Pulis, Briards, Wheaten Terriers, Teckels or even the Saluki and the original 1970’s hippy dog, the Afghan Hound; they are all charming breeds that are hardly seen any more. If you are thinking about getting a new dog, why not do a bit of research and what is available. Most breeders (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
What to look for in a dog breeder
It is always important to choose a reputable dog breeder if you are going to buy a puppy. Supporting irresponsible dog breeding will only serve to perpetuate bad practices which can ultimately be harmful to the dogs. Dogs used to breed too many litters, puppies that are taken from their mothers too early or dogs kept in terrible overcrowded conditions can be all too common if dog breeding is seen as purely a money making scheme and (more) Share» Post Ad Purchase: Intext Link Read More →
