Best Western best for dogs

New figures show that more holidaymakers want to take their dogs on holiday with them, a market that Best Western hotels plan to cater for.

The global pet market is estimated to be worth over £4 billion and looks set to grow if recent figures are anything to go by.  According to figures from Best Western Hotels, the number of bookings received from Brits who want to take their dogs on holiday with them has increased by almost 150 percent.

The Best Western group has won awards for being a pet friendly hotel chain.  The group even offers a canine menu which includes dishes such as ‘leash and potato soup’ or ‘prawn dogtail’ and for those with a sweet tooth, there is the ‘poop a scoop of ice cream’ for dessert.

There are also customised dog beds available, complete with a dog treat left on the pillow, and one of the group’s hotels in York, the Monkbar Hotel, offers a list of walks, each of which has been specially routed for dogs according to their leg size: short, medium or long legs.  Another group member, the Dower House Hotel, offers rooms that directly access the gardens.

A spokesperson for the Best Western group, Chris Webb, commented:

“There’s been a huge uptake of rooms by dog owners and their pets in the past 12 months.  In order to accommodate this increase we are investing in lots of new features to make sure our guests, and their four-legged best friends, are well catered for.”
