German dog speaks

by Darren Jamieson on February 22, 2009

If you were going to place a bet on where in the world the first dog who learned to talk would come from, Germany would be near the top of the list. The Germans tend to be the first to everything, and a dog in Germany has actually learned to talk.

True, he only says one word, and that word is ‘Mamma’. The dog’s name is Armani, and his ‘speaking’ has become the most downloaded video in Germany. Armani is even expected to make some appearances on talk shows in Germany, presumably where all of the questions (more…)

How to look after a new puppy

by Vivien Richardson on February 21, 2009

Everyone gets excited about the arrival of a new puppy and the puppy is equally excited. If you have children it is important to let them say hello and have a cuddle of any new puppy.

The puppy should be allowed to settle in by wandering around its new home.

A new puppy will need his own basket in a quiet corner so he can learn it is his own home, his own space, where he can (more…)

How to keep your puppy safe

by Vivien Richardson on February 20, 2009

Years ago if you owned a dog or a puppy you had to purchase a licence. However it has now changed, and the only requirement now for owning a dog is to have a dog tag with your address printed on it.

Your puppy or dog can have a reference identity number tattooed on them as well, if you think it is necessary. A less painful way to keep your dog tagged is by a micro-chip. Your local veterinary surgeon can give you (more…)

Boy marries dog!

by Darren Jamieson on

In a story so bizarre you’d be forgiven for thinking that it had been made up by the Sun newspaper, a boy in India has married a dog. The boy is just two years old, and the dog is called Jyoti.

It’s not a strange publicity stunt, or some fabricated story, but in fact an ancient custom performed in villages in eastern India to ward off evil spirits. The two year old boy, and groom, Sagula Munda arrived at his ‘wedding’ with the dog in a rickshaw and was married by priests.

The reason for the marriage was that Sagula had a rotten tooth in his gum, which was a bad omen that can be averted by marrying a dog.

Sanrumula Munda, the father of the boy (and groom) stated:

Tribals not only in this state but also in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, observe such practices to keep the evil (more…)

Guide to buying a puppy

by Vivien Richardson on February 18, 2009

It can be difficult to choose the correct puppy as they are all cute and lovely with their adorable eyes and appealing nature when they’re puppies, but are they suitable to your lifestyle?

Here is a list of a few tips for buying a puppy which should prove useful.

  • Never buy a puppy on the spur of the moment. Make sure you have a bed, food bowls, lead, collar, puppy food and of course toys ready for your new member of your family.
  • A nice doggie blanket and a couple of jumpers which have been worn by yourself in the dog bed will bring comfort to (more…)

Dog lover places £1,000 reward to catch the killer of five dogs

by Lianne Wilkinson on

The RSPCA have appealed for information to help locate the person killed five dogs in Kent. The dogs were found dead on Wouldham Common in January, all on separate occasions by different people, though the cause of death on dogs was very similar. RSPCA officials believe the dogs were purposefully killed by the same person.

Now an anonymous dog lover has put up a £1,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the killer.

Alana Chapman of the RSPCA stated in an appeal:

We would like to know who the dogs belonged to and what is going on here.

We are grateful that someone has come forward to offer a reward for (more…)
