Hypnosis can reduce your dog’s levels of stress

by Vivien Richardson on October 11, 2009

Moving house can be a stressful time for adults. A dog who is used to a daily routine knows something unusual is happening on the day of the move and can often sense it much earlier too. The routine has gone out of the window, but he is not quite sure what is happening.

This is when worry and stress starts to take over in your dogs mind and reassurance is necessary.

A dog can worry as much as an (more…)

by Vivien Richardson on October 9, 2009

It is nothing unusual for adults to use a selection of aromatherapy oils as a healing treatment for mind and body. Now you can use aromatherapy essential oils to heal your pet dog.

‘Aromatherapy’ is all about scents and smells. A dog will receive an aroma or scent from an essential oil which can help to heal them.

David Boreanaz owes Bones to his dog

by Darren Jamieson on October 8, 2009

david_boreanaz_-11026Actor David Boreanaz returns to our screens this Thursday in the Sky One series Bones where he plays an FBI agent, but the actor owes his career (and presumably some bones) to his dog.

Boreanaz is best known for his role as the vampire with a soul, Angel, in the Joss Whedon TV series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and then in his own spin-off series ‘Angel’.

Boreanaz landed a minor guest spot on the comedy series ‘Married with Children’, but his acting career didn’t take off until one fateful day when he was walking his dog. Boreanaz was taking his dog for a walk in a Hollywood park when a talent scout spotted him and thought he would be perfect for the brooding vampire, Angel. Boreanaz underwent three auditions before finally being cast in the role that (more…)

Basset Hound Breed Profile

by Lianne Wilkinson on October 7, 2009

The Basset Hound is perhaps best known for his long drooping ears, short stumpy legs and long body. He is part of the Hound Dog group and originally bred to track and hunt small animals. His excellent sense of smell is beaten only by the Blood Hound.

These days the Basset Hound is most often found presiding over his favourite couch in the living room as this dog makes an incredibly friendly and family orientated pet. They are affectionate and loving but have a determination and stubbornness that must be controlled by a firm but gentle owner.

Could your dog save lives sniffing out bombs in Afghanistan?

by Lianne Wilkinson on October 6, 2009

One energetic two year old border collie, Benji, is training to swap life in South Wales to go to Afghanistan and save lives by sniffing out bombs.

Benji’s family in South Wales struggled to cope with his seemingly limitless energy so Benji and four other dogs are being trained to search buildings, roads and vehicles for the crude explosive IED bombs that have killed so many innocent people over the last eight years.

Cardiff based security firm Malpeet K9 provides bomb-search dogs and put out an appeal in the Echo for new dogs.

The dogs will work with private companies working with coalition forces in Afghanistan. The US Army provides vet support for the dogs with no expenses spared whilst they are in Afghanistan.

Malpeet K9 managing director, 41 year old Simon Mallin told the media they struggle (more…)

by Lianne Wilkinson on October 3, 2009

Yesterday, 51 year old Mary Ellen Collis pleased guilty to failing to meet the care and welfare needs of 14 St Bernard dogs and to causing unnecessary suffering to a further 85 St Bernards.

The dog breeder was formerly of Wardana Kennels, Brigstock and the RSPCA was alerted to the dogs condition by the general public.  In November last year, the RSPCA, a vet and the police were appalled at the state of the dogs they found at the dog breeder’s kennels.
