Dog lovers’ spectacular deed for charity

When Zoe Quinlan and Faye Bailey came up with the idea of raising money for charity with the help of their dogs, little did they know that many local residents of Goole, East Riding of Yorskhire would join in.

On December 30, over 100 husky dogs will embark on a journey across the 156ft high Humber Bridge and, for every penny raised, children cancer charities will benefit.

Quinlan, 32 is the proud owner of two Siberian husky dogs – ironically named Ice and Storm. Her friend Bailey also owns a husky – named Onyx – and, when the day approaches, they will be joined by dog owners from nearby areas such as Wath and Conisbrough. While the main roadway on Humber Bridge will be accessible to motorists, the side footways will be used by the fundraisers and their dogs from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Every second of this special event will be captured on camera by a television crew and it is hoped that ill children and their families will be able to get the treatment and support they deserve after the money is raised.

Speaking about how the idea came about, Quinlan said:

“The whole thing really took off due to social networking.”

This good deed for charity is slightly different to others, however, because whoever raises the most sponsor money will be treated to a husky tattoo from Quinlan’s husband, David, who has been running his Rotherham-based business, Body Art Tattoo Studios, for over 20 years.

Ruddi’s Retreat is the charity focused on for this event and more can be learnt about the charity and the inspiration behind it at its website.
