Halloween dog costumes

by Lianne Wilkinson on October 31, 2010

It’s the time of year once again when people like to dress up as ghouls and ghosts and dispense candy to children who come knocking at the door. For animals though, Halloween is usually a time when they have to stay indoors, locked away for fear that they’ll be scared by all of the comings and goings, or want to run out and play with all of the children.

Of course, some dog owners (and you know who you are) believe that their dogs should be as involved in Halloween as anybody else and insist on dressing their dogs in Halloween costumes. With the dog clothes market growing every year (mostly in America it has to be said) Halloween costumes for dogs are now available in many different styles and sizes.

Here are some of our favourite Halloween costumes for dogs that we’ve seen this year. Let us know too if you’ve dressed your dog in fancy dress, either for Halloween or just for fun.

Dream dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Dog show disaster

by Mark Glenning on October 17, 2010

A Dream Dogs week long list wouldn’t be a Dream Dogs week long list without at least one contentious inclusion. This, the last in our week long series of funny YouTube videos featuring dogs, doesn’t actually feature a dog. Well, not a real one at least.

In this video, a young girl has set her video camera up in her bedroom with the intention of staging a dog show with her stuffed toys. What happens next has the vital ingredients for a funny video – it’s unexpected, and it involves pain and humiliation for the person involved.

Keep your peepers peeled for another weeklong series of the best funny dog videos on Dream Dogs soon.

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Copper comes a cropper

by Mark Glenning on October 16, 2010

Welcome to day 6 of Dream Dogs’ celebration of the funniest dog moments recorded for posterity.

Police dogs have a fearsome reputation. We’ve all seen footage of a German Shepherd chasing down a lumbering volunteer dressed in protective clothing and sinking his fangs into the poor sap’s arm. Even the most ardent hippy protestor would think twice about tangling with such a well trained animal. It’s no wonder that the police are well known for their training techniques. However, they don’t always have it their own way, as this copper discovers. What happens at 0:28 is just the cherry on the cake…

Be sure to come back tomorrow for the final video in our series.

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Screen Door fail

by Mark Glenning on October 15, 2010

Pretty much like celebrities, we can forgive our pet dogs for being a bit thick because they can be sooooooo cute. Having an intelligent dog that understands and obeys your commands is fantastic, but there’s something endearing about a pet dog that is doing something really stupid. This video is a perfect example; the family’s labrador wants to go outside, but he’s used to his master opening the door to let him out. What the hapless pooch doesn’t realise is that there’s no screen in the door frame…

Make sure to visit Dream Dogs tomorrow to see hat’s next in our week long series of excellent YouTube dog videos…

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Disobedient boxer

by Mark Glenning on October 14, 2010

It’s day 4 of Dream Dogs’ week long celebration of funny YouTube dog videos. In this one, the proud owner of a boxer dog has taken it to the beach for a training session.

His owner throws him a ball and wants him to bring it back, but typically he doesn’t do what he is told. His owner defends him, explaining that dogs have to “ponder a situation” and that his pet is “meditating” on what to do.

However, what happens next is accompanied by a hilarious voiceover by the owner. Warning – this video contains one or two minor swears.

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Sleepwalking Dog

by Mark Glenning on October 13, 2010

On day 3 of Dream Dogs‘ week long compilation of YouTube dog hijinks, we have a classic video for you. If ever you needed proof that dogs dream, this is it; Bizkit is something of a minor YouTube celebrity due to her sleepwalking antics, and her owner has posted several videos that are all worth checking out.

There’s something a little eerie in seeing her ‘run’ whilst she’s laying on the floor, and other videos show her rooted to the spot and barking at something unseen, all whilst she is fast asleep. In one later video, she has even fitted the somnambulistic Bizkit with a crash helmet to stop her bonking her head whilst she is in a fugue.

Watch this and you will see why…

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Window Fail

by Mark Glenning on October 12, 2010

Well, it’s day two of Dream Dogs‘ top seven YouTube dog videos. This classic is a perfect example of why you should take some time out to give your pet a scratch behind the ear or a tummy tickle when he wants it. It stars possibly the seediest guy Dream Dogs has ever come across, and we shudder to think of whatever it was he’s up to in the clip.

His dog – a greyhound, by the looks of it – just wants a bit of affection but is denied. By the way, we don’t know if this took place in a house or a high rise apartment…

Dream Dogs’ top 7 dog videos: Fisherman fails to push dog into river

by Mark Glenning on October 11, 2010

Cameras are ubiquitous today. Many people have a mobile phone equipped with a passable still and video camera, and high definition video cameras small enough to fit in your pocket can be had for not much more than £100. With all of this exciting technology at our disposal, what do we do with it? We film our friends, family and pet dogs doing incredibly stupid things.

High speed Internet connections and websites like YouTube enable us to share these moments of dunderheadedness, as Dream Dogs celebrates this with a week long series of some of the best dog videos to be found on the web.

In this first video, a fisherman embodies the spirit of cat-aggravating Mary Bale (she who dumped her neighbour’s moggy in a wheelie bin) with some casual cruelty gone awry. This one’s a win for doggie rights everywhere.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for the next in our series.

Ice Cream Van for dogs!

by Darren Jamieson on July 20, 2010

It’s traditional for dog owners to take their dogs to the park for a walk and indulge in an ice-cream (or two) to help cool down from the heat. Meanwhile the poor dogs usually have to be content with a bowl of water, if they’re lucky, as of course ice-cream isn’t particularly good for dogs.

However, there is a new ice-cream van that intends to change all of that, being aimed solely at dogs and offering doggie flavours, such as chicken, gammon and dog biscuits. The idea has been perfected by some crazy boffins who have worked on the flavours to ensure that they are safe for dogs.

The new ice cream van will open its shutters to doggie punters at the Boomerang Pets Party, which takes place in Regents Park this Saturday. The van will offer two flavours of ice cream, and will cost 99p for each one (as ‘99s’ used to actually cost for us humans too). The flavours are ‘canine cookie crunch’ and ‘dog eat hog world’. ‘Dog eat hog world’ offers chicken and gammon flavour ice-cream, with crumbled dog biscuit and sat on top of a doggie cone. ‘Canine cookie crunch’ is a simpler affair of ice-cream with crumbled dog biscuits.

Once the van has debuted in Regents Park this weekend, it will appear at (more…)

Dog deals with vuvuzela

by Darren Jamieson on July 5, 2010

If like me you’ve been watching the World Cup over the last few weeks, you can’t fail but to have noticed the annoying sound that dominates matches. No, not the dulcet tones of Andy Townsend, the vuvuzela. The vuvuzela is apparently a traditional Latin instrument, and is often used in Brazil, although it only seems to be able to play one note – at least when in the hands of fifty thousand football fans.

As annoying as the vuvuzela is; it’s also a great marketing ploy on behalf of the South Africans because millions of the things have been sold, and many have made their way over here to the UK.

However, one thing you shouldn’t do with a vuvuzela is attempt to annoy your dog – as the monotone sound of the vuvuzela can, and probably will, illicit the sort of response that will have you wishing you’d never heard the word ‘vuvuzela’.

Watch this video to see what happens when a dog is confronted with a vuvuzela, and how he deals with it in his own, inimitable fashion.
