Guide dog owner awarded for his inspiration

Scott Cunningham is a blind man with a passion for life. His motivation to live every day as if it were his last has led him to achieve many things, including climbing Ben Nevis. However, none of this would have been possible if it were not for his precious guide dog, Travis. Travis has undergone mounds of training throughout his life and this has led to him helping his ownert to win an award at the Specsavers’ Guide Dog of the Year Awards.

The award ceremony was held in central London on July 19 and a large crowd gathered to hear the names of the dogs and owners who impressed the most. The result of this was a well-deserved award for Mr. Cunningham, which saw him being named as Britain’s most inspirational guide dog owner. The reason why Mr. Cunningham managed to scoop this title was because he and Travis have hiked through many well-known routes. Included in these routes, aside from Ben Nevis, were the Southern Upland Way, West Highland Way, the Pennine Way and the Speyside Way.

Although the duo have worked together to make this happen, Mr. Cunningham did not need this assistance twenty years ago. The 41-year-old from the Lanarkshire area lost his sight at the tender age of 23, due to a condition called Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy. Despite the troubles, the man and dog have managed to do incredible things. Speaking of his win, Mr. Cunningham said:

“I am amazed and delighted to have won. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my guide dogs, who have helped me along the way.”
