Finding someone to look after your dog is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Most dog owners consider their pet to be part of the family and so would want the same care to be taken with their pet as with any other family member. However, it is not always possible to take your dog with you when you want to go on holiday. For some lucky families, they have good friends or relatives who are willing and can be trusted to take in their pet for a short period of time – but for most, this is not an option and they look to kennels to take their dog while they are away.
However, there are alternatives to kennels with pet sitters. The benefit of a pet sitter is that your dog will not be uprooted from the family home. A pet sitter can come to your home and feed and walk your dog several times a day or even stay overnight. The dog may build up trust with the same pet sitter and it can be relatively easy to leave your dog behind with this person knowing that they will be well looked after. Your dog will not have to mix with other dogs or be taken into a strange environment where several carers may be looking after him at once. You may feel more at ease with a pet sitter and feel confident that your dog is going to get the attention and the exercise that he might need.
