Dog and duck go for a walk

If you’ve been to Bournemouth recently you might have seen a new local celebrity, a duck called Essy. Essy has become something of a celeb about town because she seems to think she’s a dog.

The duck’s owners, Steph and Tony Tufft, take the duck for walks with their two dogs, Staffordshire cross’ named Rachka and DD. The duck is so convinced that she’s a dog that she attempts to bark just like her friends, and even competes for dog treats with them.

The couple bought the duck from a farm at just eight weeks old; she’s now nine months old.

Tony proclaimed:

We are known throughout Charminster. People come out of bars to see her. They love it.

She doesn’t know she’s a duck. She must think she’s a dog.

She goes up to other dogs. People can’t understand it and the dogs are really confused as well.

We even had to buy Essy her own lead, after getting strange looks from people who thought we were duck-napping.

Steph Tuft works as a dog groomer, and has decked the duck with the latest dog accessories.

We take her on walks. She has a lead, a high visibility vest and a collar.

The dogs set the pace then she catches up and walks in between them.

The couple have even got a pet passport for their duck, should they wish to return to Tenerife.
