After Barack Obama announced that he was looking for a suitable dog breed for America’s latest ‘First Dog’, speculation on the breed has been rife. Dogs have always played a vital role in the office of the president of the United State of America, and Obama doesn’t want his term of office to be any different.
The problem is that one of his two daughters, ten-year-old Malia, has allergies, meaning that she can’t be around most dog breeds. However, hairless or non-shedding dogs would be suitable for her. With that in mind, Peru has offered the latest US president a dog native to South America, A Peruvian Hairless Dog.
Claudia Galvez, the head of the Peru’s Friends of the Hairless Dog Association, claims that the dog is perfect for Barack Obama and his family as it doesn’t have any hair to shed. A letter was sent to the US embassy in Lima, asking if Barack Obama would consider adopting ‘Ears’, a four-month-old Peruvian Hairless Dog, to be his First Dog.
Ms Galvez stated:
They do not cause any type of allergy and are very friendly and sweet.
We want to give a male puppy to Obama’s daughters, so they get to experience all the joys of having a dog but without any allergies.
The dog breed is said to date back 3,000 years, and was reportedly once favoured by Inca rulers.
