Morty the chihuahua rises to social media fame

Rescue dog Morty, also known as ‘Morty the Misfit’, has recently become a celebrity on social media with his unique dance moves.

Morty, a 4.5-pound chihuahua with special needs, is a rescue dog from Maine in the United States. He has his own Instagram and TikTok accounts with following bio:

“One eye, wobbly walk, special needs.”

These special needs include an extensive collection of musculoskeletal, neurological and emotional issues. His owner, Danielle Ruffino, adopted him in 2020 from a Texas rescue organisation and knew the challenges he faced, but she was prepared to give him a home with her husband.

Ruffino and her husband have previous experience of adopting special needs dogs, and with Morty’s history and medical issues, the couple have said that they do spoil him a little.

The seven-year-old rescue dog has over 900,000 followers on TikTok due to his unique dance moves resulting from his rounded spine and prancing walk. His most popular video has more than 26 million views and features Morty dancing to Harry Belafante’s ‘Jump the Line’.

Ruffino has assured Morty isn’t in any pain, so they let him prance happily around their home. They also have almost 200 different outfits for the celebrity pup, as according to Ruffino, he loves wearing clothes.

Morty has aided a few fundraisers for rescue dogs, and even has some celebrity followers, such Cyndi Lauper and Whoopi Goldberg. Lauper shared a video of Morty dancing to her song ‘Echo’, which has only increased this pooch’s fame.
