American country music singer Carly Pearce had an unusual plus one to accompany her to this year’s CMT Music Awards ceremony, as she brought along her one-year-old dog, June Jolene.
The adorable Shih Tzu pup was named after June Carter, the legendary singer and wife of Johnny Cash. Pearce also gave a nod to Dolly Parton’s classic country song “Jolene” when naming her pooch, and she admitted in 2020 that she very nearly chose the moniker Dolly instead.
31-year-old Pearce purchased June after divorcing her country singer husband Michael Ray during the Covid-19 lockdown. Her decision to bring her furry companion to the CMT Awards showed that puppy love is still in the air between the songwriter and her fluffy friend. When interviewed, Pearce admitted that there had been a risk of June relieving herself on the red carpet, or tearing her outfit. The event, however, went smoothly, with her little dog behaving splendidly, making Pearce a proud fur-parent.
The pair were well dressed for the occasion, with Pearce looking stunning in a white and pink crop top, shorts and beaded jacket. June sported matching colours with a pink lead and bow ensemble. The well-groomed pup was dubbed by the singer as being “the hottest date” at the awards, which took place in Nashville on 9th June.
Pearce’s mother owns June’s brother, Johnny, and the pair of pups are the best of friends. Both dogs have appeared in a recent video sponsored by Iams dog and cat food, as Pearce confirmed her partnership with the company.
