UK’s first dog radio to be broadcast this month

The UK’s first radio station targeted at dogs and their owners, Hound Waves, is to be broadcast in two days’ time.

The station, which is supported by animal charities and celebrities, is being launched as part of the Be Lungworm Aware campaign – a cause that aims to eliminate lungworm infection in dogs by raising the profile of the parasite amid animal owners.

The project is being backed by pharmaceutical company Bayer and is expected to reduce the number of dog deaths associated with lungworm disease. The disorder has recently affected many animals in the southern regions of the UK.

With backing from Hounds for Heroes, the Blue Cross, Wood Green and the Retired Greyhound Trust, to name a few, the station will be broadcast for 24 hours on the 7th of March. Listeners can tune in to hear a number of features, including live link-ups to the dog show Crufts, canine documentaries, bedtime stories and pooch fashion tips. Additionally, dog owners can listen to advice from animal professionals to ensure that their furry companion is safe, happy and healthy.

A number of well-known celebrities will be getting in on the action, including comedian Sean Hughes, Peter Purves from Blue Peter and DJ Neil Fox. There will also be a Doggy Island Discs segment hosted by the frontman of Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Huey Morgan.

The FM station can be heard on Friday in London and near the NEC Birmingham, where Crufts is being held. It will also become available as a podcast on the campaign’s website.
