Members of the military stand on the front line and risk their lives every day, but recognition is now being awarded to the many dogs that use their courage to save lives too. The Dogs Trust Honours 2012 works to shed some light on the abundance of canines that selflessly combat violence, uncover bodies and salvage lives every single day. As the awards near their fifth year, a shortlist of candidates has been confirmed and now the public have been asked to vote for their winner.
The Dogs Trust Honours 2012 will consist of two categories, which are Hero Service Dog and Hero Pet Dog. Many famous faces will be present at the finals of this event including Deborah Meaden from the well-known television show ‘Dragons’ Den’ and presenter of ‘This Morning’ Eamonn Holmes. Eamonn will assist in the judging process and speaking of his excitement for the event he said:
“In the past year Dogs Trust has shown me how much of a difference a dog can make to your life as my wife Ruth and I adopted little Maggie from Dogs Trust Harefield.”
The final candidates in the Hero Pet Dog category are Tojo the nine-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier cross, Ellie May the three-year-old Dachshund, Blitzen the 17-month-old Lurcher-Collie cross and Izzy the 10-year-old Terrier cross-breed. In the Hero Service Dog category will be Sammy the fire investigation Springer Spaniel, Zak the Border Collie rescue dog, Kirby the English Springer Spaniel search and rescue dog , Aman the German Shepherd police dog and Barra, who is an English Springer Spaniel underwater sniffer dog.
