Rescue dog escapes death after 14 days trapped on fence

JoJo, a spaniel dog, has left many people shell-shocked after she cheated death following a terrible ordeal last month. The rescue dog is only six years old but her bravery surpassed all expectations when she was found alive and trapped to a fence after a staggering 14 days of being missing. During a walk with members of the rescue team in May, JoJo went missing in Penmaenmawr, Conwy and after many attempts to recover the dog, a search was called off.

David Jones, who works at the Wales-based International Training Centre, was considerably worried that JoJo may die or be unable to work as a rescue dog again. However, the dog was recently found with an infected leg and eyes. The seriousness of her injuries meant that she required a leg amputation and laser eye surgery but the spaniel has since taken steps towards a working life as a rescue dog. The clever canine managed to drink rainwater and eat nearby grass to stay alive, which was her only source of nutrition.

Despite JoJo currently taking antibiotics, she is walking steadily with three legs and is surprising members of the International Training Centre every day. JoJo’s turnaround is warming the hearts of everyone who knows her and, speaking of the frightening experience, David Jones said:

“She’s still on medication and is still on eye-drops for now. She’s trained for human remains so she’ll always be working on a long lead. It’s her nose we want and she’s one of the best.”

Although JoJo was found in a weak state, she is making a remarkable recovery and will once again assist rescuers in solving crimes.
